本ワークショップについて：
プロの写真家に最も尊敬する写真家を訊ねると、ジェーン・エヴリン・アトウッドの名前が頻繁に挙がります。ジェーンはその人間性、優しさ、そして非常に困難なテーマに焦点を当てた長期のプロジェクトで知られており、しばしば声なき者の語る物語を雄弁に伝えます。
ジェーンはユージン・スミスの人間愛の遺志を継ぐ最高の写真家に送られるユージン・スミス賞(1980)の最初の受賞者です。また、グッゲンハイム・フェローやハッセルブラッド財団の助成金(1994と2003)の二度の受賞者であり、ライカが一年に一度授与する権威あるオスカー・バルナック賞も受賞しています。
ジェーンはまた、ニューヨーク市の国際写真センター（ICP)での常任講師、そして軽井沢に本拠地を置くNobechi Creativeでのオンライン講師も務めています。
2022年に東京のCHANEL NEXUS HALLで開催された彼女の個展「Soul」は絶賛されました。

彼女のストーリーテリングのアプローチはあなたの写真にも応用できます。ストーリーテリングは旅行写真、あなたの日常の記録、あるいは単にあなたの写真プロジェクトに目標や焦点を持つための有用なツールにもなります。
このワークショップでは、ストーリーテリングの練習を始めるための基礎を教えます。そして日本のみならず世界中の写真家が参加するこのワークショップは、写真についての様々な視点からの実り多い対話と議論を交わす場となるでしょう。

10枚以下のご自身撮影の写真の作例(デジタル、プリントどちらでも可)をご持参ください。
軽井沢フォトフェストでは将来的にストーリーテリング賞を設けます。本ワークショップの受講者は写真によるストーリーテリングの作り方を一足先に学ぶことができます。

Description:
If you ask professional photographers whom they most admire among their colleagues, Jane Evelyn Atwood’s name comes up often. She is known both for her humanity and kindness as well as for her long-term projects focused on very difficult subjects, often telling the stories of those who do not have a voice of their own.
Jane was the first-ever recipient of the W. Eugene Smith Award (1980), given to photographers who continue in the finest tradition of Smith’s legacy of humanistic photography. She is also a Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, twice a recipient of the Hasselblad Foundation Grant (1994 and 2003), and the prestigious Oskar Barnack Award, given once a year by Leica.
She is a regular instructor for the International Center of Photography in New York City and Nobechi Creative, online, based in Karuizawa Japan.
In Japan, her 2022 exhibition “Soul” at CHANEL Nexus Hall in Tokyo received rave reviews.
However, her approach to storytelling is applicable to your photography as well. Storytelling can be a useful tool for travel photography, or documenting everyday life around you, or simply for having a goal and focus to your photographic projects.
In this class, Jane will teach you the basics to get you started on your storytelling practice. The class will consist of photographers from Japan and from overseas, leading to fruitful dialogue and discussion on various perspectives on photography.
Notes:
Nobechi Creative’s Bilingual Support Team will provide translation services.
Please prepare a maximum of 10 examples of your photographs and bring them either as digital files or as prints.
Future editions of Karuizawa Foto Fest’s call for submissions will include a storytelling award. Participants who take this workshop will have a head start in learning how to create a story using photographs.
A basic lunch will be provided.
